Take the Granite and Goldfields Wildflowers Drive in spring time and enjoy a leisurely drive through some of Western Australia’s best wildflower country. Wildflowers can only be seen during the flowering season, which runs from August to October in this region, depending on seasonal rains.
Day one: Perth – Merredin (260 kilometres/3.5 hours)
Travel through historic York along the Granite Wildflowers Self Drive and see the landscape transform into flat plains with spectacular wildflower displays along the roadside. Visit Bruce Rock and Narembeen on your way to Merredin.
Accommodation options: Motels, caravan park, camping.
Day two: Merredin – Kalgoorlie, 334km, 4 hours
Head for Sandford Rock Nature Reserve, 10kms northeast of Westonia, where you’ll find beautiful Silver Mallee. Head back to the Great Eastern Hwy, and on your way to Kalgoorlie, stop by at Boorabbin Rock, home to the rare granite rock poison plant, and Caenyia Rock to see swordfish banksia.

Day three: Kalgoorlie – Leonora, 235km, 2.5 hours
Journey to Comet Vale to view mulga woodlands, unique granite rock vegetation and prolific spring wildflower displays. Continue north to Menzies, via the Gormley Sculptures, Kookynie, Leonora, Gwalia and the Malcolm Dam with its profusion of wildflower varieties.
Accommodation options: Outback pubs, motel, caravan park, Hoover House.
Day four: Leonora – Perth, 830km, 9.5 hours
Return to Perth via Coolgardie and the Golden Pipeline Trail.
