Events

Australia ’s Golden Outback boasts a riot of colourful events and festivals the whole year round in variations as diverse as the region. Amid the outback townships you’ll find horse races, wildflower festivals, air shows, exhibitions, concerts and shows – the list is seemingly endless.

If you fancy kicking up your heels with farming folk, be sure to visit an annual agricultural show. The Wheatbelt towns, in particular, are renowned for these colourful country events – a must-attend show on any rural social calendar. Try the Dog in Ute event in Corrigin – a huge fundraiser in which Corrigin has repeatedly smashed the World Record for the number of dogs held in utes in one place at one time!

Or what about the true outback Aussie experience of the bush horse races? Otherwise tiny, sleepy towns transform into riots of boisterous activity when their bush races commence. People travel from far and wide to join in the carnival atmosphere of the races, with the Gascoyne-Murchison region particularly popular.

If wildflowers are more your thing, try visiting Australia’s Golden Outback during the Spring as townships across the region put on dazzling displays of the region’s incredible selection of wildflowers. These exhibits are often accompanied by festivities for the whole family and wildflower shows in Esperance and South Coast are particularly impressive.

Then there are the events in Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields which are so amusingly unusual that they could only be the product of the outback.

So check out the calendar and plan your visit now – after all, no one knows how to throw a party like the country folk. For a full listing of events throughout Australia's Golden Outback by date please click here
