Dryandra Forest Trail – Three days

Take the Dryandra Forest Trail and discover the unique Dryandra woodland. Escape from the everyday, taking nature walks through some of WA's most scenic bush and farmland.

Day one: Perth – Wagin (270 kilometres/3.5 hours)

Head south, following the Dryandra Forest Trail to the farming town of Williams. During cooler months, lush green valleys and fields create a picture-perfect drive. Stop for lunch in Darkan and visit Boronia Reserve, known for its wildflowers. Continue to the Merino farming centre of Wagin where the Giant Ram welcomes you to town – the largest in the southern hemisphere. Visit the Historical Village or enjoy a cooling drink on the verandah of an outback pub.

Day two: Wagin – Wickepin (124 kilometres/2 hours)

Follow the road north to Narrogin, one of the Wheatbelt's best known farming communities. Explore gardens and heritage buildings before journeying to the Dryandra Woodlands – home to 100 bird species and 24 native animal species including possums, echidnas, woylies and kangaroos. Visit Barna Mia Animal Sanctuary and follow the Albert Facey Trail in Wickepin, which tells the story of his famous book 'A Fortunate Life' and includes his restored home.

Day three: Wickepin – Perth (207 kilometres/2.5 hours)

Take a walk around Yarling Brook, and see historic buildings including the Old Police Station and Railway Station Precinct. Return to Perth via Brookton, stopping to explore the region’s tranquil nature reserves, picnic grounds and the Bibbulmun Track walk trail.
