264 Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie, 6430
Edie Ulrich is one of six remaining native speakers of the local, endangered Aboriginal Tjupan language. Join the family as they head off on a honeyant hunting trip into the Goldfields desert region (half day tours from Kalgoorlie).
Experience the gathering and harvesting and tasting of Australia's 'best' honey and enjoy a relaxing yarn and some tea and bushfood at the campfire.
These tours are supported by the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre GALC, an Aboriginal research corporation which undertakes the preservation, linguistic analysis and documentation of the Goldfield's Aboriginal languages.
GALC works with Aboriginal Elders to develop dictionaries, grammars, language learning resources, books and material for the use, learning and enjoyment of Aboriginal languages.
This, in turn, fosters the opportunity for Goldfields Aboriginal people to provide cultural, arts and linguistic tourism for visitors to the region.
This half-day, self-drive tag along in your own car will be one of the most exciting experiences you will have in the Goldfields.
Learn about the local Aboriginal culture as you gain fascinating first-hand insights into traditional hunting and gathering techniques.
Taste Honey ants and other bush foods while listening to cultural stories.
Please note: No Tours are conducted on a Saturday and one weeks notice is required for bookings.
