The roadhouse provides a vital service to both east-west and north-south travellers and is proudly owned and operated by the Spinifex people. It is located in a very remote and isolated area and faces many challenges as a result.
Structures at Ilkurlka have all been architecturally designed, ergonomically and functionally. This includes the roadhouse, house, arts studio, logistics shed and amenity structures.
Ilkurlka is entirely solar powered with a generator back-up if needed. This also includes our bore which supplies good potable water to supplement rainwater collected in tanks around the roadhouse.
Ilkurlka campsite is a peaceful retreat with a hot shower, toilet and covered barbeque area. Firewood is freely provided.
Our shed tank structures and signage within Spinifex Lands provide a welcome to travellers, an initiative of the traditional owners.
