Delve into adventure with five carefully crafted guided hikes, designed for beginners to seasoned hikers. Whether you seek a leisurely stroll or a challenging trek, our trails promise an unforgettable journey through Esperance's scenic beauty.

Developed in partnership by regional tourism organisation Australia’s Golden Outback and The Hike Collective, with funding support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the WA Hiking Participation Grant Program, the GROUNDED | Esperance Hiking Festival 2024 represents a collaborative effort to inspire visitors and locals to explore the region’s trails.

Become a Volunteer Guide:

Join the heartbeat of the festival by becoming a volunteer guide. The Hike Collective, a renowned hiking tour specialist, will provide comprehensive training to ensure you're well-prepared to lead fellow enthusiasts through the enchanting trails.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

The 3-month training course for volunteer trail guides in preparation for the Esperance Hiking Festival will equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to support successful hiking tours. The training includes:

Two Online Training Sessions: Each session will last for 1 hour and cover essential topics such as trail safety, navigation, and group management. These sessions will be conducted via a virtual platform, allowing participants to learn from the comfort of their homes.

Take-Home Trail Guide Handbook: A comprehensive handbook will be provided to all participants. This resource will include detailed information on the trails, flora and fauna, historical and cultural significance, and emergency procedures.

In-Person Training Day in June: Participants will gather for a hands-on training day where they will scout the trails in person. This session will focus on practical skills such as route planning, identifying hazards, and effective communication with hikers.

Final Assessment: Prior to the festival weekend, participants will undergo a final assessment on the trails to demonstrate their competency as trail guides. This assessment will ensure that they are fully prepared to support safe and enjoyable hikes during the Esperance Hiking Festival.
