Wheatbelt Wonders Under the Stars

Travel through the tranquil Jarrahdale State Forest and Helena National Park as you meander your way to Lake Grace. You’ll have plenty of options to stop along the way in Brookton and Wickepin before arriving at your destination after lunch. In Lake Grace, take your pick of wonderful astrophotography opportunities. Taste the local wine, visit the museum and find your perfect location for night time photography. From Lake Grace to Lake King, you’ll find a view to suit. Call in at the Jam Patch for an evening under the stars to remember.

It’s only a short drive to Kondinin from Hyden and the magnificence of Wave Rock, so you have plenty of time to rustle up some breakfast and then check out the attractions in town including the Lace Place and Toy Soldier Museum. There’s a lot to discover as you wander around interesting Hyden.

Then it’s Kondinin for the night and there is a fantastic opportunity to get the camera out after dark! On top of Yeerakine Rock, not far from Kondinin, is a magnificent metal sculpture of the Light Horseman. The view to the south east will place the rising Milky Way right over the horse and you’ll be delighted with the results.

It’s a delightful trip back home through Wheatbelt farming country and the Avon Valley. There are many small towns on the way including Northam where you can stop in for lunch and a visit to the Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge where you’ll discover the Six Nyoongar Aboriginal Seasons.
