The foundation stone for this church was laid on 18th December 1932 and the opening ceremony was held on 2nd July 1933.

Hawes was influenced by the thirteenth-century churches he had visited in Italy as he believed the climate in Morawa was similar to the Mediterranean. The church was enlarged and changed in the 1960s.

The Priest's Lodge next door is the smallest in the Southern Hemisphere and is no longer used due to its lack of space and facilities but is well worth a visit.
