There are daily flights to Perth airport (Western Australia’s capital city) from major international hubs. These flights connect with all domestic flights which travel to Western Australia’s Golden Outback.

To the Golden Outback

QANTAS Perth and Virgin Australia operate daily flights between Perth and Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Skippers offers flights from Perth to the Golden Outback towns of Ravensthorpe, Leonora, Leinster, Laverton, Wiluna and Meekatharra.

Esperance is also serviced daily by Rex Airlines, with flights to and from Perth.

By road

From Perth

The regions of Western Australia’s Golden outback can easily be accessed by road from Perth. The two main arteries running into the region are the Great Eastern Highway to Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Great Northern Highway to Meekatharra. Esperance can be reached via the Albany Highway and along the South Coast Highway.

However, there’s a huge choice of alternative routes that will give you a more enriching experience of this amazing Australian outback region. A full range of rental vehicles, ranging from motor homes to four wheel drives, is available in Perth.

From Australia's east coast

Australia’s Golden Outback can be accessed from the eastern states via the Eyre Highway and Nullabor Plain from South Australia, or the Canning Stock Route or Outback Way from the Northern Territory.

Coach

TransWA operates coach services daily from Perth to Esperance and also offers services that connect with many of the towns within the Wheatbelt and Gascoyne-Murchison region. And if you’re keen to explore the Goldfields region, Goldrush Tours' operates a regular coach service, linking Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Menzies, Leonora and Laverton.

Rail

TransWA operates the Avonlink and Prospector train services, sometimes twice daily, from Perth to Kalgoorlie, stopping in towns including Cunderdin, Kellerberrin, Merredin and Southern Cross. The Indian Pacific also stops at Kalgoorlie twice a week on its journey between Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

The times and distances shown on the chart below use the main roads. In some areas, there may be alternative, quicker routes using unsurfaced roads or four-wheel drive tracks.
